Max Effective LR

THE COURSE:

 

The Max Effective LR course provides concentrated instruction of external ballistics elements, AB devices, alternate firing positions and extended long-range shooting skills. AB Trainers will develop and refine your long-range shooting abilities to continue testing you and your weapon system.

 

The course begins by revising LR shooting foundations and confirming the short-range setup of the LR weapon platform. Thereafter, it quickly advances with extended LR skills and application, enabling shooters to successfully engage extended LR targets and push the limits of an individual weapon system.

 

This course is conducted over two days with classroom and range time, culminating with various extended long-range target engagements. Target engagement distances may vary dependent on range location, however will consist of 1500 yards as a minimum.

HOURS:

 

Each training day commences at 0800 and concludes at 1700 with a one-hour lunch break in-between. AB Trainers will also be available for any follow up discussion and questions thereafter.

 

Max Effective LR is a two-day course.

PRE-REQS:

 

We recommend you have completed Effective LR, or possess the following assumed knowledge to get the most out of this course:

 

  • Ability to individually achieve LR weapon setup and calibration;
  • An understanding of MV Temperature Tables
  • A working knowledge & understanding of external ballistics;
  • Capacity to operate AB devices for single and multi-target engagement;
  • Ability and experience spotting and correcting fall of shot
  • An understanding of weapon employment zone analysis
  • Some experience with alternate positions
  • Competence in exercising weapon safety and handling.
  • Participants must be a US citizen or US person to attend this course. Participants must be able to produce proof of citizenship or residency status upon request.

PHYSICAL:

 

You don’t need to be an athlete but be prepared for two days of range shooting regardless of less than favorable weather conditions.

THE EQUIPMENT:

 

Bring your personal AB device or take the opportunity to select an AB training device appropriate to your shooting objectives. Choose between using a Kestrel 5700 ELITE AB or Garmin Foretrex 701B for the duration of the course.

LR WEAPON SYSTEM:

 

  • Capable of consistently grouping 1 MOA or less
  • Semi-automatic or bolt action
  • Equipped with a bipod that can be leveled (e.g., Harris S-BRM, Atlas BT-10, Phoenix, etc.)
  • Optional use of tripod
  • Magazine or single feed
  • Caliber between .223 and .375 (range regulation dependent)
  • Anti-cant level installed

OPTIC:

 

  • Exposed target style turrets
  • 86 MOA / 25 MRAD internal elevation adjustment after zero or;
  • MOA / MRAD reticle capable of holdover to 1500 yards minimum or;
  • Elevation adjustment and reticle holdover of 86 MOA / 25 MRAD after zero
  • Minimum variable or fixed 15X mag

AMMUNITION:

 

  • 300 rounds of match grade ammunition
  • Grouping consistency of 1 MOA or tighter

 

Armor piecing, tungsten core, steel core, explosive, barrier blind or similar ammunition natures may not be used.

 

The performance and safety of hand loaded ammunition is the sole responsibility of the shooter.

 

Shooters will have the opportunity to collect muzzle velocity and powder temperature sensitivity data at temperature extremes. Please note:

 

  • Ammunition that has been hand loaded to achieve maximum muzzle velocities in standard temperature ranges may be unsafe for testing at the extreme heat temperature range.
  • Shooters should note the temperature and muzzle velocity information for hand loaded ammunition before course commencement.
  • Involvement and participation of muzzle velocity testing is at the shooters’ sole discretion.
